Hal W. Lanse, Ph.D. is a teacher trainer in New York City. He is a specialist in middle grade and young adult literacy and a past winner of the Frank W. Dilley Award, Walden University's annual prize for outstanding doctoral dissertation. Dr. Lanse trains teachers in current literacy research and shows them how to turn the research into daily classroom practice. He also teaches family literacy workshops and is currently at work on Read Well, Think Well, a book for parents who want to support literacy at home.

Dr. Hal is the single parent of a high-energy young adult, the dynamic Kenny. Kenneth who is studying computer science is a bodybuilder, a semi-professional boxer, and an avid Anne Rice fan. Father and son live in a converted warehouse with cats Yuskei and Zero, and Roxie, a bull snake with an attitude problem.
